On one hand, data centers play an important role in our modern digital economy and in all the services and activities we carry out online today. On the other hand, the energy consumption of data centers contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and CO₂.

Therefore, data centers need to continue their efforts to drastically reduce their energy consumption and greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions. To make this possible, not only the location and management of the data center play an important role, but also the technologies used in the data center. Think, for example, of energy-efficient servers and cooling systems and the use of other sustainable energy sources such as wind or solar energy.

At present, LCL is already making many efforts for the environment. For example, we use green energy and are the first Belgian data center company to be affiliated with SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative) to limit global warming to 1.5°C. A good example is the switch to the renewable fuel HVO100.

Additionally, we are also the driving force behind the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact to support the European Green Deal.
