LCL is proud to announce that it has achieved the ISO 27001 re-certification for all its sites for the next three years. This information security certification is in addition to the company's existing ISO certifications in safety, quality and environment. With these certifications, LCL demonstrates its commitment to protecting its customers’ data and to providing high-quality data center services.
The data center sites in Diegem, Aalst, Antwerp and Huizingen were already ISO 27001 certified and now the site in Gembloux (LCL Wallonia One) is also on the same certification. LCL Wallonia One was already certified for its information security management system through a different auditor, but now all 5 sites are part of one scope by the same external auditor, offering more uniformity. Besides ISO 27001, all 5 sites were last year already certified with three other ISO certifications: ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management, ISO 9001 for Quality Management and ISO 14001 for Environmental Management.
ISO 27001 is one of the most popular information security standards in the world, and especially in the data center industry an essential benchmark for good security practice.
This standard helps organisations to secure their information assets. It defines the requirements for the information security management system (ISMS). It uses a systematic approach to manage sensitive information so that the information remains secure. Management must be able to demonstrate that the organisation identifies, reviews and manages security risks on an ongoing basis through the application of appropriate controls (risk management).
“It is of great importance as regulatory requirements are increasing the need for data centers to offer high security of their data. ISO 27001 focuses, among other things, on logical security, physical & environmental security and security aspects of business continuity management. The physical security entails things such biometric access control and equipment maintenance. Important are the 3 pillars: confidentiality, integrity and availability. Besides that, it also proves high-quality IT systems that ensure privacy and stability”, says Mieke Germonprez, Quality Manager at LCL.
The certification is valid for three years, although it still requires a yearly audit to check its compliance with a surveillance audit. The entire company was involved in achieving the ISO re-certification. ISO 27001 re-certification demonstrates that LCL has invested in the people and technology to sufficiently protect the data it has stored. The re-certification is also of value when it comes to LCL’s sustainability approach. LCL will keep investing in certifications as digital technologies keep evolving, and with that also the importance to stay compliant and guarantee up-to-date information security in the next few years.
